The tutorial below is a great guide to making your own glueless wig!
A secure lace front wig begins with a good foundation. And If you thought lace front wigs required a lot of maintenance, you were right! Every detail in the process of making it look as real as possible, matters. The edges, plucking the hairline, bleaching the knots and especially blending the stocking cap with your skin to achieve what is called the "Bald Cap" method, all correlate to create a look that is uniquely yours. In the end, the results are gorgeous!
Besides, you do not want your lace front lifting or pulling back when you are in public. Or worst when you are on a date! Using the elastic band method could be the solution to ensuring your hair stays in place all day and all night.
Start by braiding your hair down in cornrows from the front of your head to the back and secure with bobby pins to prevent the ends of your hair from unraveling. Next, clean your hair line with alcohol. Make sure to remove any makeup or oil that maybe present on your skin. You will now begin to apply the Bald Cap method to your hair as the first step to securely applying your lace front wig. We will talk more about this method in our next blog post.
What is the Elastic Band Method?
The elastic band is sewn into the underside of your wig. This method ensures a secure, comfortable fit, and makes taking the wig on and off a piece of cake.
How to Install your Lace Wig using the Elastic Band Method?
First, you will need a needle, some thread, and a pair of scissors and a 1" elastic band. Stretch the band from ear to ear behind your head to measure the length of the band. This will be the length of the band without stretching it out too far. You want the band to be pulled taut so that the wig will have a comfortable snug fit once applied to your head, without fitting to tight.
Next, flip your wig inside out and place it on a canvas wig head and secure with T-pins. Cut the band to the length you measured without stretching it, sew the band onto the cap exactly where the ear tabs are located. You can always adjust the band later if it feels too tight or too loose.
The lace in the front of the unit should lay flat once you try the wig on. Again, the fit should be snug but not tight. You can then adjust the front of the unit by pulling it slightly forward. Your lace is delicate. So be gentle as your adjusting the unit. Once you cut off the lace, you will be able to style and wear your wig without applying any glue or adhesive to the hairline area. Your wig is now glueless and it will lay perfectly flat across your hairline.
Lastly, you can now lay your baby hairs and add a touch of contour powder to the lace if you have not already bleached the knots on your lace front wig. And although your wig is glueless, you can still apply freeze spray to the hairline for an even more secure hold.
Attaching an elastic band to your lace front or full lace wig will give you a stress-free experience. So skip the glue and still melt your lace. Your wig will always remain in place.
Have A Happy Summer!!!
