Human hair vs. synthetic hair extensions: which is better?

Can a Synthetic Wig Look Natural?

That my friend is the million dollar question, A synthetic wig can be an excellent way to change your hairstyle without committing to a permanent change. It's an easy and convenient way to switch up your look for a special event, or just because. However, one of the biggest concerns with synthetic wigs is that they can often look fake or unnatural and the quality of the hair does not last very long. On avaerage, a synthetic wig can last for a few weeks before the tell tale signs of it's short comings began to show.  Fortunately, with a little customization, you can easily make your synthetic wig look more natural. In this e-book, we will discuss the various steps and techniques you can use to customize your synthetic wig and make it look more like your natural hair.

Step 1: Choosing the Right Wig

The first step in customizing your synthetic wig is to choose the right wig. Select a wig that is close to your natural hair color and texture, as this will make it easier to customize. The right wig should also fit comfortably on your head, and be easy to style.

Step 2: Cut and Style Your Wig

One of the most important steps in customizing your synthetic wig is to cut and style it to suit your face shape and personal style. You can do this yourself, or you can take your wig to a professional stylist. Keep in mind that synthetic wigs cannot be cut and styled with heat tools, so you will need to use alternative methods. You can use a pair of scissors to trim the wig to your desired length, or use hair gel and water to create the style you want. Heated rollers are another good option that will apply gentle heat to the hair without burning the strands. Think of Pixie cuts and other short hair styles. Using hair pins or small clips to manage the hair into different angles works very well for synthtic wigs. Curly snthetic wigs can be pinned in different ways that gives the hair a natural appearance.

Step 3: Add Baby Hairs

To make your synthetic wig look more natural, you can add baby hairs around the hairline. Baby hairs are small hairs that grow around the hairline and temples, and they can help to make your wig look more like your natural hair. You can use a razor or scissors to cut small hairs from the wig and glue them to the hairline with a small amount of wig glue.

Step 4: Customize Your Lace

When I customize my lace using human hair products, it's alittle different If I were to do this with a synthetic product. But in general, the process is the same. All you would need is a little powder or concealer to hide the knots on your wig. Use a small angled brush to apply concealer underneath the closure section of the wig and along the length of the wig parting space. Then set the part with powder and blend. The color gradient should match your skin tone or be slightly lighter to make it look like a natural scalp.

Step 5: How to Match the Correct Concealer

Choosing the right concealer shade to match your skin tone is crucial for achieving a natural-looking wig. To select the right shade, start by determining your undertone (cool, warm, or neutral). You can do this by looking at the veins on the inside of your wrist. If your veins appear blue or purple, you have a cool undertone. If they appear green, you have a warm undertone. If you have difficulty determining your undertone, you may have a neutral undertone.

Once you have determined your undertone, select a concealer shade that is close to your skin tone or one shade lighter. Avoid choosing a concealer that is too dark, as this can look unnatural and obvious. It's also essential to choose a concealer with a matte finish, as this will help create the illusion of a natural scalp.

When in doubt, it's best to test the concealer on your skin before applying it to your wig. Dab a small amount of concealer on your wrist or jawline and blend it into your skin. If the concealer disappears into your skin, you have found the right shade. If the concealer is too light or too dark, keep testing until you find the perfect match.

Step 6: Wash and Style Your Wig

Finally, it's important to take care of your synthetic wig to keep it looking natural. Wash your wig regularly with a mild shampoo and conditioner, and then let it air dry. You can also use wig styling products, such as hair gel or hairspray, to create different styles.

Disadvantages of a Synthetic Wig

Now you know we had to give you the complete "TEA" about synthetic wigs! We know that some of our customers have worn synthetic hair in the past. And were happy that we at HookedOnBundles were able to persuade them into trying real human hair wigs. And they loved the options we offer. But if your not convinced that one is better than the other, then just read these details and tell us what you think about what we know about non-human hair:

  • Limited Styling Options: Synthetic wigs are not as versatile as human hair wigs when it comes to styling. It cannot be heat-styled with curling irons or straighteners, and the styles they come in usually cannot be altered.
  • Durability: Synthetic wigs tend to have a shorter lifespan than human hair wigs. They are more prone to tangling, matting, and shedding, and they may lose their shape and volume over time.
  • Shiny Appearance: Synthetic wigs often have a shiny, plastic-like appearance, which can look artificial and unnatural.

Recent upgrades to synthetic wigs have improved their quality and made them a more affordable and attractive option for those looking to save money. However, customizing a synthetic wig to look natural requires a little bit of effort, but the results are well worth it. By choosing the right wig, cutting and styling it to suit your face shape, adding baby hairs and a scalp, and taking good care of it, you can create a natural-looking hairstyle that will make you feel confident and beautiful. With these tips and techniques, you can enjoy the convenience and versatility of a synthetic wig, without sacrificing the natural look you desire. Some of these new synthetic upgrades include:

    • Heat-resistant fibers: Synthetic wigs can now withstand heat up to a certain degree, allowing for the use of styling tools such as straighteners, curling irons, and blow dryers. This makes it possible to achieve a wider range of styles, and the wigs will maintain their shape after styling.
    • Improved texture and movement: Newer synthetic wigs are made with finer and more flexible fibers that mimic the look and feel of natural hair. This makes the wigs more comfortable to wear and less prone to tangling.
    • Better color matching: Modern synthetic wigs come in a wide range of colors and shades that better match natural hair colors. Additionally, the fibers are often blended to create more natural-looking highlights and lowlights.
    • Pre-styled options: Many synthetic wigs come pre-styled, which means that they are ready to wear right out of the box. This saves time and money on styling products and appointments.

But, while these upgrades have made synthetic wigs a more attractive option, they still have some disadvantages compared to natural hair wigs.

For example, they tend to have a shorter lifespan and can be more prone to tangling and frizzing. Additionally, they are not as versatile in terms of styling options and may not have the same level of natural movement and feel as a human hair wig.

Although synthetic wigs are a more affordable option, they may not offer the same natural look and versatility as human hair wigs. By investing in a virgin or raw human hair wig, you can achieve a more realistic appearance that can be heat-styled, dyed, and cut to your liking. With their durability and longevity, human hair wigs can last for years with proper care, making them a worthy investment. With a wider range of styles and textures available, it's easier to find a human hair wig that matches your natural hair. While the initial cost may be higher, the long-term benefits of a human hair wig versus a synthetic wig are well worth it for a more natural and personalized look.
